Shanklin Performing Arts Centre Update

The Theatre Trustees have now received an updated estimated cost plan for the demolition and construction works for the proposed new Performing Arts Centre building on Victoria Avenue.

This cost plan considers the complex structural design and required temporary works such as providing protection hoarding to the perimeter of the site during the demolition and construction stages, and the installation of a temporary ground beam to support the existing wall that abuts the Victoria Avenue footpath.

This latest cost plan includes some more accurate costings from a number of suppliers and service providers. It is worth noting that construction costs are 40-50% higher than they were back in 2023 when we received the previous cost plan.

The Arts Council England has announced its new Creative Foundations Fund, which provides funding for creative and cultural organisations that supports restoration and renewal projects such as ours. £85m is available to support theatres, galleries, and arts centres to restore buildings in need of repairs.

The Trust will be submitting an initial expression of interest in July to tap into the available funding that could pump prime our community project.
